Teens and their Issues

"The secret life of an American teenager" shows a better and more realistic portrayal of teens and teen issues. My reasoning is based on the exposure of teens to today's media which revolves around the idea of sexuality. For example, in the episode, Amy commits that her experience with sex was not that adoring as compared to what she saw in those romantic movies. This shows teens influence of media onto their lives which suggests the true portrayal of teens' issues in the episode. Moreover, the episode covers excessive sexual desires of teens where people go to have sex as simply as someone going on a date, From my perception, it is an example of exaggeration used by the director to amplify his point.

Most teens are not that bad as shown in the episode through numerous characters - like Ricky and Ben. The new councillor, Mr. Molena, is like the audience, who gets really shocked by the teens portrayed in the episode. However, the problem of pregnant teens and immature children being born is a real issue among teenagers. A character in the episode mentions that approximately 46.8 percent of teens have sex. This is well shown in the episode as Amy is fighting through this problem emotionally and socially. Teens find it really hard to admit they had sex and that they are pregnant. The social price seems to be a serious issue and also leads to numerous suicides or abortions every year in the US. Percentages are quite low in Canada.

Teens are misguided nowadays through the media and teens are getting punished for just watching the content that should not be allowed for them. The secret life of an American teenager does exaggerate a bit but shows most of the teen issues related to sexuality and its consequences on young teens.

From what I see around at school in Canada, Teens have issues on gaming, social media and their education which is quite different from teens in US, where there is a higher percentage of teen parents.
